Salem, Oregon – Several people were killed after an officer opened fire on East Salem’s residence on Monday.
Officials said that Marion County Sheriffs’ Bureau responded to a “potential hostage situation” at around 12:30 pm at Block 200 of Juneva Place SE, near Mahrt Avenue SE.
Representatives arrived at the house and negotiators for the sheriff’s office called the individual who was believed to have taken others in the house hostage.
Officials said that “shots were fired” with “the accident”, resulting in “several deaths.” No MPs were injured.
Officials refused to provide information on the number of dead or dead, or details of the events that led to the situation. Sgt. Jeremy Landers, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, refused to disclose any information about the individuals killed until the family members were notified.
The Mahrt Avenue SE between Lancaster Drive SE and Roggy Court SE was closed for several hours during the investigation. Mahrt Avenue SE reopened at approximately 5:30 pm on Lancaster Drive until 40th Place SE.
Officials said any MPs involved in the shooting would receive administrative leave during the investigation of the shooting, as specified in the protocol.
The authorities said there was no threat to the community.
The accident has been handed over to Oregon State Police for investigation. Salem Police are also assisting in the investigation.
